An opportunity missed
The Hutchinson News - January 27, 2008

I see this young man, as I have for years, sitting on the front porch of his mother’s home, smoking his cigarette or walking his mom’s dog around the neighborhood. He was a pleasant young man, with an unforgettable look of decency and eyes that shined with quiet kindness.

As the day draws to a close, I wish I had told this nice decent person how much I loved him and how much I will miss him. In my mind’s eye, I will see and say hi to this dear man the rest of my life as I walk the path to my home. I will always see him sitting on that porch.

Sleep in silence, dear soul; you have left your troubled world behind. With God’s grace, may you lie down beside the still waters and find the peace that eluded you in this life.
